Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy is a process that focuses on growth and change. Talking about our issues and understanding our feelings paves the way to becoming more aware of the source of our struggles and painful feelings. This awareness allows us to perceive and create options in our lives, of which you may not have been aware. It focuses on finding ways to deal more effectively with feelings, behaviors, relationships, and life’s challenges.

What to expect

Although treatment approaches vary depending on the therapist, the initial appointment often follows a general pattern. Therapy begins with a period of evaluation, during which you will discuss your reasons for seeking treatment. During the initial sessions, factors such as frequency and length of sessions, as well as general office policies, payments, and procedures will also be discussed.

Within the first few sessions, you and your therapist will come to a mutual understanding of the goals for treatment. After this point, the sessions will become less like an interview; you talk about whatever is on your mind. Your therapist will listen and help you identify patterns of thinking, feeling, and interacting that may be contributing to your current struggles. Deeper awareness and new insights stimulate psychological growth and change.

Medication

You may have questions about medication. While I do not have  prescribing privileges, If the need arises, I can assist you in finding a prescribing clinician to schedule an initial medication evaluation.  That being stated, please note that I cannot prescribe medications nor recommend specific medications to any physician as this would be unethical and out of my area of expertise to do so

I can however, discuss treatment options, provide medication education and insight, advocate on your behalf and/or coordinate care with your current prescriber or, with a new prescribing clinician, with your written, informed consent, as it is most often beneficial for your healthcare providers to be familiar with one another's treatment recommendations to ensure treatment planning cohesion.
